ourfc teams depth tested in a tough week's rugby

All five OURFC representative teams were in action this week, with squad depth challenged to the limits. Performance of the week undoubtedly goes to Lauren Webb and the Women's Blues, who outclassed Swansea University 57 points to 17 at Iffley Rd to confirm their 2nd place in BUCS Premier South, with one game to go - Cardiff at home next Wednesday KO 1800. Earlier that day the Panthers had travelled to Harper Adams for their first game of term, and put in a spirited performance but came off second best 37 points to 17. Back in Oxford, the men's section were hosting visiting US University side St Mary's College for two matches, the first played at the Oriel College ground, saw the Whippets somewhat outpowered by 47 points to nil, in a game originally scheduled for the Greyhounds. As the curtain raiser to the women's match, the men's Blues struggled to hit their straps against a classy and fired-up St Mary's outfit, who deserved their narrow victory by 16 points to 10. The week was rounded off, when the Greyhounds welcomed local club side Oxford Harlequins to Iffley Rd with both sides looking to secure a place in the Oxfordshire County Cup Final to be played at Iffely Rd on Thursday 6th April. An end to to end match in front of a large 'boisterous' crowd, mostly Harlequins supporters, saw the more experience club side secure victory by 37 point to 27, although the Greyhounds will take much heart from their spirited display.
